IS MY TICKET PURCHASE TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

No. Prizes won are not taxable and therefore the ticket purchase cannot be used as a tax deduction.

IF I WIN THE GRAND PRIZE SHOWHOME OR THE EARLY BIRD SHOWHOME, DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN IT OR CAN I SELL IT?

Once the home is awarded to the winner, they do NOT have to live in it. Any prize won can be sold if the winner wishes to do so.

HOW DO THE TAKE 50 AND 100 DAYS OF WINNING CASH CALENDAR ADD-ONS WORK?

The Take 50 and 100 Days of Winning Cash Calendar Add-Ons do not have to be ordered in conjunction with your Foothills Hospital Home Lottery ticket. Take 50 and 100 Days of Winning Cash Calendar tickets can be purchased separately or added on to your Foothills Hospital Home Lottery ticket.

Take 50 Add-On:
Single for $10, Five for $25 or Fifteen for $50. The Take 50 prize value will depend on the nature of sales. A minimum $365,425 will be awarded, however the more Take 50 Add-Ons sold, the higher the value of the prize. The winner will take half the jackpot and the Calgary Health Trust will take half. The Take 50 Add-On ticket sales cut off is May 5, 2017, and the draw will take place on May 17, 2017. Visit FoothillsHospitalHomeLottery.com to see the jackpot grow!

100 Days of Winning Cash Calendar Add-On:
Single for $25, Three for $50 or Six for $75. There will be 1 cash prize of $50,000 on May 24, and 99 daily cash prizes of $3,000 from May 25 until August 31, 2017. Total prize value of $347,000. The 100 Days of Winning Cash Calendar Add-On ticket sales deadline is May 5, 2017, and the draws will take place on May 16, 2017. Winners will be notified by telephone and posted daily on the lottery website at FoothillsHospitalHomeLottery.com beginning May 24, 2017.

ARE LOTTERY WINNINGS TAXABLE?

Lottery winnings are considered a windfall and not taxable in Canada. For further details regarding the sale of such goods, please seek professional counsel.

DO I HAVE TO TAKE MY PRIZE OR CAN I JUST TAKE THE CASH?

All prizes must be accepted as awarded. There are no cash substitutes unless otherwise advertised.

IF I WIN A VACATION BUT CANNOT TRAVEL, CAN I GET THE CASH?

No, however, travel prizes ARE TRANSFERABLE, so you may give it to someone else. Where applicable, airfare for vacation prizes is from the Calgary International Airport.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO CLAIM MY PRIZE?

All prize winners have one year from the date of the draw to claim their prize.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I CANNOT PICK UP MY PRIZE IN PERSON?

Arrangements may be made to have a prize shipped to you freight collect, or if someone other than yourself will be claiming the prize on your behalf, you must provide them with written and signed authorization along with your original prize winning letter you received from KPMG.

CAN SOMEONE WHO LIVES OUTSIDE ALBERTA OR OVERSEAS BUY A TICKET?

Tickets must be purchased within the province of Alberta. Tickets will be mailed within the province of Alberta only. The lottery is intended for residents of Alberta.

HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO PURCHASE A TICKET?

Persons must be 18 years of age to purchase a ticket and the name of a person under 18 years of age may not be written on the ticket due to requirements of the Public Trustee Act.

WHEN ARE THE DRAWS?

The VIP draw date is March 2, 2017.
The Bonus draw date is March 29, 2017.
The Early Bird draw date is May 4, 2017.*
The Final draw date is May 24, 2017.*
The Take 50 Add-On draw date is May 17, 2017.
The Cash Calendar Add-On draw date is May 16, 2017.

*If all 138,000 tickets are sold prior to the Early Bird ticket sales cut-off of midnight, April 13, then all 4,686 prize draws will be completed by May 4. If tickets remain at the Early Bird deadline, then only the Early Bird draw will be made on May 4 and the remainder of the prize draws will be completed for the Final Draw date of May 24. The majority of the draws will be held at the office of KPMG (3100, 205 – 5th Ave. SW) and are open to the public. The draws for the top 5 Grand Prizes including the Grand Prize Showhome will be televised on the applicable draw date and will be advertised as to specifics. ARE THE PRIZES DONATED?

No. All prizes are purchased by the Calgary Health Trust using a tender process.

HOW ARE THE WINNERS NOTIFIED?

The accountants of record, KPMG, will notify all winners in writing. The letter explains what they have won and where and how to claim their prize. The top winners will be published online at FoothillsHospitalHomeLottery.ca on May 11 or June 1 following the applicable draw date.

IF I WIN, IS MY TICKET STILL IN FOR OTHER DRAWS?

Yes, after each draw, including the Early Bird Draw, the winner is recorded and the ticket number goes back for the next draw.

HOW CAN MY CHANCES OF WINNING REALLY BE 1 in 30?

Each ticket is entered in the lottery for ALL draws. There are 4,686 prizes and only 138,000 tickets available. 138,000 tickets / 4,686 draws equates to approximately 1 chance in 30. Another way of looking at it is that there is a prize for every 30 tickets sold.

HOW MUCH WILL THE HOSPITAL MAKE AND HOW WILL IT BE USED?

The projected profit of the Foothills Hospital Home Lottery is over $4.1 million. Proceeds will be directed to priority programs and equipment at Foothills Medical Centre. The lottery website has a full proceeds page regarding proceeds information.

WHAT PERCENTAGE OF MY TICKET PURCHASE GOES TO CALGARY HEALTH TRUST?

All the money from the Foothills Hospital Home Lottery ticket purchases go to Calgary Health Trust. Calgary Health Trust then pays for the expenses associated with running the lotteries, which includes the purchase of the grand prize showhome and other prizes, marketing, call centre support, insurance and licenses.

Calgary Health Trust approaches its lotteries as a social enterprise. Over the past three years, the lotteries have generated an average of 29% return on investment and have produced net revenues of over $28 million. This money has gone directly into benefiting a variety of programs and purchasing equipment at Foothills Medical Centre, Peter Lougheed Centre, Rockyview General Hospital and in the future, South Health Campus.

Calgary Health Trust carefully examines balancing the risk and reward of running each lottery in its goal to raise significant funds to advance health care in Alberta. All lottery expenses comply with the rules and regulations established by the governing body, Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission.

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH MY PERSONAL INFORMATION YOU COLLECT?

The Calgary Health Trust respects your privacy. We do not rent, sell or trade our contact lists. Personal information collected will be used to keep you informed of our charitable work, funding needs and opportunities to volunteer or give. In addition, we will use this information to fulfill ticket orders, provide information on our future lotteries, contact prize winners and publicize the names of prize winners. WHY DO I HAVE MORE THAN ONE BROCHURE MAILED TO MY HOUSE?

If you are a previous buyer, you will have received a marketing brochure providing an early opportunity to purchase tickets before public advertising begins. Once public advertising begins, a brochure is mailed to all residents in Calgary and surrounding areas. If you have received more than one brochure specifically addressed to you, this could be due to different names or different ways of recording the address used when previously purchasing tickets. If you would like to update/remove an address, please contact the lottery help line at 1-888-541-5540.

WHAT IS THE VIP PRIZE?

The VIP Prize is five (5) prizes of 7 nights for 2 in the Bahamas. All tickets purchased by the VIP Deadline, Friday, February 17, 2017 (midnight), will be eligible for the draw on Thursday, March 2, 2017.

WHAT IS THE BONUS PRIZE?

The Bonus Prize is one (1) prize of a trip for 6 to Las Vegas PLUS $15,000 Cash OR $50,000 Cash. All tickets purchased by the Bonus Deadline Friday, March 17, 2017 (midnight), will be eligible for the draw on Wednesday, March 29, 2017.

WHAT IS THE EARLY BIRD PRIZE?

The Early Bird Prize is a $1.7 Million Canmore Showhome PLUS $25,000 Cash. All tickets purchased by the Early Bird Deadline, Thursday, April 13, 2017 (midnight), will be eligible for the draw on Thursday, May 4, 2017.

PRIZE VALUES

Prize values shown are approximate retail values as of the date contracts were negotiated with suppliers. Due to housing market fluctuations, the market value of the real estate prizes may rise or diminish over time. Winner or charity is not entitled to the difference, if any, between the stated and actual market value at the time the prize is awarded. Prize values include applicable taxes.

WHY ARE WE SELLING TICKETS AT ALL FOUR HOSPITAL SITES?

The Foothills Hospital Home Lottery is a fundraising event presented by the Calgary Health Trust. The Calgary Health Trust raises money for each of the four hospital sites (Foothills Medical Centre, Peter Lougheed Centre, Rockyview General Hospital and South Health Campus). The proceeds for this year’s Foothills Hospital Home Lottery will support priority programs and equipment at Foothills Medical Centre.
